A recent survey conducted by the travel team of 'Hill Stations India' concluded that, this year tourist(international and national) are seeking for holidays in the hill-stations of Southern and Eastern Zone. Let me bring to you, the list of highly rated hilly places in the country. Have a look and make your best choice.



Coonoor:

Coomoor is a small yet beautiful hilly town in the Nilgiri Hills of Tamil Nadu. It is situated at an altitude of 1,800 m above sea level and is an ideal place for bird-watching and trekking. A fun-filled ride on Coonoor Blue Hill Train (Fairy-tale train) will offer the charm of getting around the Sim's Park, Pasteur Institute and Pomological research center.

Ooty:

A worthy visit to Coonoor lies in stretching the tour schedule to Ooty. Crowned as the Queen of the hill-stations, this popular place is largely explored by newly wed couples and sightseers. Also known as Udagamandalam is the Queen of hill stations and this capital of Nilgiri district has the artificial Ooty lake, built in 1825 for the sole motive of providing an irrigation tank to the people of this region. A botanical garden nestled in the lower slopes of the Dodabetta peak is among the prime attraction in Ooty.

Munnar:

Snuggled with the clam pitch of Kannan Devan hills, sheltered with the moving clouds and breezy atmosphere, Munnar is a must-visit hill-station in India. The touristy place is situated at an altitude of 1600 m above the sea level and is well-known for acres of tea estates. Major attractions in this hilly town of Kerala are Kuthumkal Waterfalls, Kundale tea plantation, Mattupetty Dairy farm, the nearby Devikulum hill-station and the Christ Church

Kalimpong:

Tucked in between Siliguri and Gangtok(West Bengal), Kalimpong is well-known for Buddhist monasteries. It is situated at a height of 1,250 meters above the sea level and overlooks the pious flow of river Teesta. Prime attractions in the hill-stations are Catholic Church, Dr. Graham’s Homes School, Durpindara, Flower Nurseries and Army Golf Club. Some must-buy items from Kalimpong market are local items like thankas, daggers, tea cups, footwear and lanterns.

Mahabaleshwar:

Situated in the Sahyadri ranges of Southern India, Mahabaleshwar is a travelers paradise. The place is treasured with the endless beauty of waters falls like the Chinaman's fall, Dhobi fall etc. The blazing view of sunrise point and the Kate point will touch the core of your heart and so do the Pratapgarh fort which will supplement your knowledge about the place.

Panchgani:

A 20 km travel from Mahabaleshwar will help the visitor reach the greenery of Panchgani hill-station. The place offers the soothing view of river Krishna and the coastal plains. One must visit center in Panchgani is the largest Table Lands, highly opted place by Bollywood film-makers and foreign tourist.

Lonavala:

Situated at a height of 620 meter above the sea-level, Lonavala is a popular hill-resort in India. It is sandwiched in between Pune and Mumbai and is often called as the 'Jewel of the Sahayadri Mountains'. Some most popular tourist destinations in the hill-station are Ryewood Park and Shivaji Udyan, Tungarli Lake, Lonavla Lake, Valvan Dam and Tiger's Leap.
