Nissan Leaf electric vehicle sold out in U.S.
Nissan's CEO, Carlos Ghosn, has confirmed the Leaf is sold out in the United States.
So far, more than 19,000 customers (13,000 in the US and 6,000 in Japan) have reserved a Leaf. Considering that Nissan can only produce 12,000 vehicles by March 2011, the Leaf is sold out for 2010.
As we have previously reported, the Leaf features an electric motor with 80 kW (107 hp / 109 PS) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft) of torque. Power is provided by laminated lithium-ion batteries, which allow the Leaf to travel approximately 160 kilometers (99 miles) on a charge. Once depleted, the batteries can be fully recharged in eight hours (using a standard household outlet).

U.S. pricing starts at $25,280 (after a $7,500 federal tax credit), while European prices range from €29,955 (Portugal and Ireland) to €32,839 (Netherlands).
